Polystyrene blocks from construction site which were not secured correctly

A construction site in the Mount Roskill has had complaints about it’s materials not being secured safely, and causing damage to other properties.

Construction work started on the site around 3 months ago, and there had been no complaints until heavy winds hit Auckland a few weeks ago.

Polystyrene blocks that were not secured correctly flew into surrounding properties, and caused damage to items such as fences, plants/pot plants, and windows.

Residents who suffered damages were furious about the situation and I reached out to a few for comments about what happened.

Local resident Malcolm said that the polystyrene blocks had caused damages to his newly painted fence and walls.

“I had just added a new coat of paint to the fences surrounding our house as well as the walls on our garage, however a lot of it has been chipped off due to the damages from the polystyrene blocks.”

The construction workers offered to clear up the polystyrene blocks, however they made no effort to repay or help with the damages caused by the blocks.

Local resident Shania who’s pot plants were damaged was furious about the company not doing anything about the damages, and spoke to me about it.

“I had two flower pots that were broken due to the polystyrene blocks flying into them and have no place to put the flowers anymore, however the construction company doesn’t seem to care about that.”

Since that day the residents have fixed up the damages by themselves without the help of the construction company, who have now secured their materials correctly to stop another situation such as that happening again.
